MUDGEE SHIRE COUNCIL COMMUNITY SUPPORT CENTRE
The Mudgee Shire Council Community Support Centre is
a community resource centre that offers a variety of services
and information to the residents of Mudgee and surrounding
districts.
Mudgee Shire Council's Social and Community Plan was developed
in 2000, with the Social Planning Advisory Committee (SPAC)
established to review the key recommendations in the plan.
These were to increase the level of information about community
services, support local community services and agencies,
address accommodation issues for those in crisis and for
people with a disability, and improve youth services.
The
Mudgee Shire Council Community Support Centre covers a wide
variety of services:
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels commenced in Mudgee in 1963, providing hot
meals for both town and rural Shire residents, now 7 days
a week. The aim of the service is to provide nutritional
assistance to people who are permanently or, in some cases,
temporarily unable to cater for themselves. It is designed
to assist the frail-aged, younger people with disabilities
and their carers, to remain in the comfort of their own
home. There is an initial assessment to establish eligibility
for the service and then re-assessment as required.

Community
Transport
Community Transport has 18 volunteer drivers who drive residents
over 15,000 kms p.a. to medical appointments, on shopping trips
and other appointments, be it just around the town or all the
way to Sydney. These residents are those who are in situations
where they have limited or no access to other transport options.
Fees associated with the Community Transport Service are based
on the distance travelled. For additional information and fares:

Home Modification
and Maintenance Service (HMMS)
HMMS helps to transform homes to improve accessibility. Its aim
is to assist people to remain in their own home rather than having
to move into a nursing home or hostel accommodation. The Service
specialises in home modifications, maintenance, adjustments and
advice on building related matters. Those eligible are frail-aged
persons with a disability, a person with a disability who requires
support and assistance, or a person who is the primary carer of
one of the above.

Host Family Respite
Care Service
Host Family Respite is a service which offers temporary care of
a disabled person. Care may be in the home of a host family, in
the client's own home or may provide an outing in the community.
Respite care allows the parents and families with a disabled member
to have a little time for themselves. The service can be used
for a few hours regularly each week, overnight, for a weekend
a month, or up to 4 weeks a year.
